A Delightful 14k Gold Movado Dress Watch With Striking Black Breguet Dial and Francois Borgel Case - c.1950s.

Movado was founded as L.A.I Ditescheim & Freres SA in 1881 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, by Léopold Achille Isidore Ditesheim. In 1905, the company changed its name to Movado which translates to 'always in motion'.

In 1983, the company was purchased by North American Watch Corp, founded by Gedalio Grinberg, a Cuban-born Jew, who fled Fidel Castro's Marxist Revolution in 1960 with his family.

Movado watches have earned great distinction for their high quality and unique designs. Thus, they are one of the most collectable watches around the world.

What’s On Offer

A delightful offering here from Movado in the shape of this beautiful 14k gold dress watch with a striking black dial. It may be petite but what it lacks in size, it certainly makes up for in charm. The contrast of the yellow gold against the black dial gives this watch a beautifully opulent character which is enhanced further by the Breguet dial that boasts applied quarter Arabic numerals and baton indices. The gold sword hands are in good shape and the blood-red central seconds offers an unusual pop of colour. The dimensions are slight at 28mm, however, it does wear larger and feels substantial thanks to the precious metal it is crafted from and the outstanding lugs! There is a clear marking engraved between the bottom lugs, 0192136-1730 and at 12 o'clock it is just possible to see the chronometer marking underwritten by the Movado signature. Speaking of the lugs, they are a really nice feature on this watch and act as an extension of the case rather than an afterthought - they really add to the overall aesthetic and to the dimensions, giving the watch a meaty feel on the wrist. We have seen them described as 'bulls horn lugs' and we must admit that they do have that kind of look about them!

Running well and keeping good time thanks to recent service by our master watchmaker, this really is a lovely vintage Movado with a high-quality movement, which would look very elegant on the right wrist.
