Circa 1979 Rolex Oyster Perpetual with a rare Engine-Turned Bezel - Model reference 1002. Calibre 1570 automatic movement.

To the untrained eye this bezel design appears similar to the fluted bezel design commonly used by Rolex, but this 'Engine-turned' style of bezel finish is a lot rarer and much more collectible. Engine-turned doesn't mean that the bezel rotates as the watch ticks or anything as outlandish as that, but that the bezel has been 'notched' with intermittent polished blocks during its finish. It completes the look of this Oyster Perpetual, contrasting with the jet black dial and thin, white hour plots. At 34mm the case makes for a slim, refined wear which is helped by the bezel sloping away from the watch face towards the wrist. The tritium outer hour plots (denoted by the T - Swiss - T signature at the bottom of the dial) have achieved a wonderful light orange patina as they have aged, making for a subtle touch of vintage character. The automatic movement is COSC-Certified as a Superlative Chronometer, and keeps time excellently.

What's on offer

This Rolex 1002 with a lesser-seen Engine-turned bezel is in excellent vintage condition. As it is a pre-owned and vintage watch it does show very light evidence of wear and this is visible particularly on the case back and edges. This would very easily polish out should you prefer. We can arrange for this at cost if you would prefer a watch which looks brand new!

The watch has undergone a thorough inspection and runs perfectly well and is all genuine and original, and will be provided in a custom handmade leather travel pouch with a 12-month warranty from us.
