OYSTER PRINCE

This delightful 1960’s Tudor Oyster Prince, reference 7965, is in general excellent overall condition and is available with its original box and papers.

Case and Crown

The watch comes in a stainless steel case and polished bezel. The screw in back is Rolex signed as is the crown. All genuine and original to the watch.

The case and crown are in excellent condition with some very minor blemishes only noticeable through a loupe.

Dial, Hands and Glass

The watch has a signed silver dial with gold baton hour markers. At the tips of each baton is a small luminous plot which have all gone a beautiful tint of green. Gold stick hour and minute hands with beautiful patina similar to the plots.

The look of the watch is very striking and elegant and we consider that the hands together with the ‘T Swiss T’ dial are all in superb condition.

Glass is unmarked and perfect.

Movement

Calibre ETA 2461 rotor self-winding movement with 25 jewels and a 42h power reserve when new.

The watch is running strongly and keeping good time as you would expect from this movement. The watch will be serviced and will then come with a 12 months guarantee for your peace of mind.

Bracelet/Strap

The watch comes on a Rolex signed folded link bracelet numbered 7835 with 357 end pieces. The bracelet is in immaculate condition and doesn’t even look worn let alone having ever been polished. Folded link bracelets tend to be stretched and quite tatty when worn on a regular basis, which is very much, the opposite to what we have here for sale.

Box and Papers

Although there is a genuine red Tudor box and documentation that will come with this watch we can’t guarantee that they are original to the watch. The reason we believe this is that the watch itself dates from its serial number 489*** to 1965/66, which is also borne out by the fact that the dial has the small rose symbol and the bracelet is Rolex signed rather than Tudor.

The box has a Tudor shield symbol, as does the guarantee document and red Tudor wallet. We also wish to point out that the watch guarantee is dated 02/10/1980 and stamped by the official Rolex service centre at Bexley, Kent and has reference number which is incorrect by two digits.

We think that one possible explanation is that the watch was sent back to the Rolex centre for a service and came back with new box and papers or it was sat as new old stock at Bexley from the 1960’s and was only sold as a new watch in 1980 as the papers suggest. This may also explain the watches impeccable condition.

This watch comes with a detailed invoice together with a written warranty.

In Conclusion

For a watch that is around 50 years old this is a beautiful Tudor Oyster Prince that, in our opinion, is in excellent condition. Its 35mm case means it could be used by either a lady or a gentleman.
