A circa.1944 Timor WWW Dirty Dozen WWII military issued soldiers wristwatch.
At the end of the Second World War, many members of the British armed forces were issued with a basic but carefully specified watch, commissioned from one of 12 Swiss manufacturer’s by the British Ministry of supply. As these watches became highly sought after by collectors over the ensuing decades, they became known as ‘The Dirty Dozen’ - earning this nickname from the 1964 war film of the same name. Timor represented around 13,000 pieces of the circa 145,000 watches produced and delivered. These watches have gone on to become highly sought after in watch collecting circles with nice examples getting harder and harder as time moves on to attain.
Mr Bernheim and Mr Luthy founded Timor in La Chaux-de-Fonds, nestled in the heart of the Jura mountains. Their aim was to provide fine Swiss watches, that where built to stand up to everyday life. By the end of the year, they began to export watches throughout Europe and the reputation of Timor began to grow. In 2020 the brand Timor was resurrected and created a Kickstarter campaign to create a re issue of the original WWW and this is currently available, but you can't beat an original like ours!
What’s On Offer
The present watch is an excellent example of real class. It has all the original ingredients of a really nice vintage military watch with character to the case, patina on the dial and finished with the classic NATO style strap. All sounds nice on the face of it but as we look in more detail at the watch here on offer, you can understand why military watches have been so collectable and enjoyed by fans for decades. The Arabic numerals on the dial have turned a lovely vanilla shade which contrasts nicely against the radium lume. The shape of the case on the Timor “Dirty Dozens” have always been a fan among the collectors of this series of watches with its stepped case design similar to the ever popular Longines www “Greenlander” variant of the WWW’s. The Timor here on offer just screams buy me!
