Throughout history, meteorites have been used by mankind to craft all manner of objects from tools and weapons to religious artifacts and even jewellery, however, their use in watches is a more recent phenomenon. Various watch brands use fragments of large meteors sourced from sites in Namibia (Gibeon) and Sweden (Muonionalusta).

Rolex is known to use solid slices of the Gibeon meteorite (Namibia), which is then attached to the surface of the dial and treated with an acid-wash finish to bring out its natural crystalline pattern known as the Widmanstätten pattern, which can only be formed over millennia in outer space. The once dull metal is unrecognisable after hours of painstaking polishing and the angle of the pattern is dependent on which plane was used to cut the original raw material, a labour-intensive process, ensuring each dial is completely unique.

This stunning Daytona with its silvery-grey meteorite Roman index dial is in unworn (since recent Rolex service), mint condition and comes still complete with its service stickers, box, original papers, together with, service card/Rolex warranty from August 2021 with the remainder of 2 yrs.

With three recessed sub-dials framed with white gold, applied Roman hour markers, elegant stick hands, and a pop of red on the Daytona signature and chronograph hands, the dial is a handsome package. With the trademark tachymetric bezel and generous dimensions, it is the ultimate luxury sports chronograph reimagined - it's simply out of this world (sorry, I couldn't help it).
