Revue Cal. 57 ATP - Early WWII British Army watch

A precursor to the famous ‘Dirty Dozen’ watches, produced for the British Armed Forces during World War II by 12 world-famous watch manufacturers (hence the nickname). The ATP (Army Trade Pattern) series of watches was made available at the start of WWII via a Military of Defence contract with 16 Swiss suppliers in 1939 (amazingly, in an effort to demonstrate neutrality, the Swiss supplied almost identical watches, this time with black dials, to the Germany military).

Buren, Cortebert, Cyma, Ebel, Enicar, Eterna, Font, Grana, Lemania, Leonidas, Moeris, Reconvillier, Record, Revue, Rotar, Timor and Unitas all made watches for the ATP series, with Ebel, Revue and Timor producing two different types, bringing the total number of available versions to 20.

Each military grade Revue watch had a robust, round waterproof case made from either nickel chrome or stainless steel, with a diameter of approximately 31mm. Powered by a 15 jewelled calibre 57 movement, each watch also had a white dial with 'railroad' chapter ring marking the minutes, luminous index spots, wide lumed 'pencil' hands, and a silvered subsidiary seconds register.

Just over 133,000 ATP watches were produced during World War II, and while the watches were meant to have been destroyed as fighting drew to a close, many were decommissioned and some continued in service.

On sale here is a beautiful version of the model, made by Revue, with an original radium dial that’s aged very evenly to a wonderful tropical/tobacco colour, and a nickel chrome plated case.

The case back is engraved A.T.P. - with military reference numbers 238748 - Q4740, along with a military broad arrow case marking.

What’s On Offer

This watch is in excellent condition for its age and in full working order, sold with an adjustable black leather strap which in itself has some age and was likely fitted many years ago. We can also supply a new strap should you want!

The original radium dial has aged to an unusual and eye catching tropical/tobacco coloured patina.
