£3,850.00GBP
vws1776

A Super Original, Omega with Radium, Stepped Sub-Seconds Dial, Wristlet Watch Waterproof, Designed and Specified for British Soldiers During WWII, Part of the set, termed 'The Dirty Dozen'.

Popular and much sought after, the WWW military watches were the first to be specially designed and custom-made for the British Army.

In the 1940s The Ministry of Defence developed a specification for military issue wristwatches. The specification is referred to as W.W.W - Watch, Wrist, and Waterproof. W.W.W. is marked on the case back along with the serial number and manufacturer code which in this case is Y for Omega.

There were 12 different manufacturers who produced watches to MoD specification and they are collectively referred to as “The Dirty Dozen”.

Only around 25,000 Omega, WWW watches were made for the British Army during WW2 and we don't know how many of these survived, making an example of this calibre rare and highly collectible.

What’s On Offer

This charismatic watch is in excellent condition considering its age and the stories it could tell! The original factory dial is in glorious condition with no blemishes to speak of. The sword hands, seconds hand, and crown are all veracious to the original MoD specification of the watch. The sword hands are in excellent condition with the lume taking on a stunning pumpkin colour adding depth to the dial and giving the watch a very warm and charismatic aesthetic.

The Omega 30T2 caliber movement, a robust and reliable performer, is in very good condition, running well and keeping good time after having recently been serviced by the renowned watchmaker, John Senior.

This watch offers the purchaser both history and wearability, a stylish vintage watch with classic military lines, yet with proportions substantial enough for contemporary wear.
