A fantastic original Omega WWW Dirty Dozen military issued watch from circa. 1944 with wonderful original dial and hands that have turned a sublime pumpkin colour and look truly stunning!

In the closing years of World War II, a basic but carefully specified wristwatch was commissioned for members of the British armed forces by the Ministry of Defence - manufactured by one of twelve watchmakers who delivered the pieces in 1944 and 1945. These manufacturers (Buren, Cyma, Eterna, Grana, JLC, Lemania, Longines, IWC, Omega, Record, Timor and Vertex) later came to be known as ‘The Dirty Dozen’ in the mid-1960s, after the release of the popular war film of the same name.

The forerunner of Omega, La Generale Watch Co., was founded at La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland in 1848 by Louis Brandt, who assembled key-wound precision pocket watches from parts supplied by local craftsmen. He sold his watches from Italy to Scandinavia by way of England, his chief market. In 1894, his two sons Louis-Paul and César developed a revolutionary in-house manufacturing and total production control system that allowed component parts to be interchangeable. Watches developed with these techniques were marketed under the Omega brand of La Generale Watch Co. By 1903 the success of the Omega brand led the La Generale Watch Co to spin off the Omega brand as its own company, and the Omega Watch Co was officially founded in 1903.

What’s On Offer

The present Omega example is in wonderful shape considering it having likely been strapped to the wrist in rather demanding conditions to say the least during the second world war. The case is free from significant marks or any damage but instead shows a delightful patina which is in line with the age of the watch and if anything adds to the true charm of this piece. The dial benefits from highly legible Arabic indices, sub seconds dial, sword hands and broad arrow. The caseback is engraved as you would come to expect from the historic “Dirty Dozen” whilst the lume adds a stunning creamy warmth to the dial. Inside beats the Omega 30T2 movement used in various examples of omegas of this period, with the dial covered by a shatterproof plexiglass.

You must agree this is a wonderful example and runs as well as it looks as you would expect having recently being serviced and checked over by the legendary John Senior, so we have no hesitation giving this watch our 12 month guarantee for your piece of mind.
