c.1963 Omega Seamaster De Ville 166.020 Calibre  562-1

The De Ville family of watches was born in 1960 as Omega’s elegant dress watch. Aside from the aesthetics the model was also self-winding and water-resistant, hence most also have the Seamaster monica! In the 1963 James Bond movie ‘From Russia with Love,’ Sean Connery wore an Omega Seamaster De Ville. There are many variations of this popular Omega watch, which was the most varied of all OMEGA lines by 1967. In 1999, the De Ville became the first watch in the world to contain a co-axial escapement and free sprung balance.

What's on offer

The deep black tropical dial on the present example further reinforces Omega’s desire for the De Ville to be the desired dress watch within the range. Cementing the class of this piece are the steel baton indices and baton style steel and tritium hands. The delicate but robust 34mm steel case creates the signature dress watch that is what you come to expect from the De Ville range ever since the models launch in 1960. Utilising the ever popular calibre 562 automatic Omega movement the example on offer here is the quintessential gents dress watch that always has a place in one’s collection.

The unpolished case is free from substantial blemishes and only has marks that are in line with its age. The dial remains distinctively classy and again retains its allure which is why the De Ville remains at the top of the Omega range even today. Finished with either an exotic or grained leather strap, the watch sets the scene that will make you feel like the man who wore the watch in the 60’s, James Bond film.
