A Vintage Omega Automatic ‘Geneve’ 9ct Gold Dress Watch with Monocoque Case - Ref. 165.65020 - c. 1971
The designs of the 1970s Omega ‘Geneve’ wrist watch were outstanding, with so many different shapes and colours on offer that hardly any other Omega collection could compete.
This model (ref. 165.65020, movement no. 3148xxxx) has a hallmarked 9ct gold monocoque case, made by Shackman and Sons of London - monocoque cases being made in one piece to render the watch extra-waterproof, rather than the standard screw down or clip on case back on many models.
The watch is powered by a calibre 565 movement with 24 jewels and features a quickset date feature (with date aperture at 3 o’clock,) allowing the date to be set independently from the timekeeping hands (and therefore much quicker than by rotating the hour hand repeatedly through a 24-hour cycle.)
The textured off-white dial features mesmerising gold hands and indexes, and the piece also has a slim bezel and lugs, giving it a simple, elegant appearance that lends itself to both formal and everyday wear.
The watch is supplied on a dark brown / burgundy crocodile leather strap with gold coloured pin buckle, a stylish later period addition that replaces the original but complements the piece very well.
