Omega De Ville Date - Reference 166.033 - 14k Gold Presentation Watch - 1969
A Superb Omega De Ville with Date, a Presentation Watch, in 14k Yellow Gold with Interesting Caseback Engraving, c.1969, Omega Reference 166.033.
There are various noteworthy Omega watches with a classic look and many of them can be found in the De Ville family. The De Ville was first introduced as part of the Seamaster collection around 1960, however, in 1967 Omega decided that the De Ville was to become a range in its own right. The design team came up with an individual look for the collection which came to embody style and sophistication in a move, away from its original beginnings as a Seamaster.
What’s On Offer
Timeless, elegant and stylish, this gold Omega De Ville represents the epitome of the class vintage dress watch. Oozing charisma yet understated on the wrist, a really handsome mid-size watch and the perfect partner for all occasions. The silver sunburst dial is in beautiful, blemish-free condition and is furnished with applied baton hour markers, slim pencil hands and a subtle date aperture at 3 o'clock. The dial is completed with a central sweep seconds hand and is encapsulated under plexiglass. The thinner gold bezel on this De Ville allows for a larger diameter dial which in turn, allows the watch to wear a little larger on the wrist and the gold case and crown give the watch an extra touch of opulence. In beautiful shape, this is a fantastically well-preserved vintage dress watch, worthy of any collection.
Extra notes relating to the caseback engraving: A motorcycle club was founded on June 30, 1950, which, with the help of the ÖAMTC President at the time, Manfred Mautner Markhof, was included in the group of ÖAMTC branch associations from the start. At the first general assembly in the founding premises, 1050 Vienna, Margaretenplatz 5, the editor of the magazine “Motorrad”, Franz Wiesinger, was elected chairman.
From 1953, Helmut Schich took over the management of the Z.V.Motorrad club of the ÖAMTC, which started a wealth of motorsport activities that represented an essential part of Austrian motorsport history from the post-war period to the late 1980s.
It appears from the caseback engraving that this watch was presented at one of the aforementioned motorsport events, namely the summer rally of 1969, which appears to have taken place on 'Weltmilchtag' which translates to World Milk Day. An interesting presentation watch for the new custodian to further research!
