Lemania Single Pusher Chronograph - White Dial - (Strike through - HS /|\ 9) - Re-Issued /|\ 0552/924-3305 1932. Royal Navy-issued pilot's ordnance watch.

This Lemania HS9 was UK Government issue to the Royal Naval Fleet Air Arm. HS stood for Hydrographic Survey, which meant mapping harbours and waterways. The 9 was its watch specification number which stood for Chronograph. Stock Number 0552/924-3305, indicate that this specific timepiece was produced for the British Royal Navy between 1945 and 1950. Other indicators such as the engravings on the case back hint at a life dedicated to the life of its country.

The highly legible Arabic dial clearly marks it as a military watch, while the “Broad Arrow” designates the watch as property of the crown. The additional detail on the present watch which further reinforces the history and rarity of this piece is the strike through of the “H.S.^9” which means the watch was subsequently reissued. Two variants of these chronographs were issued to the Royal Navy. One variant had radioactive dials such as the one found here, which were given to those in service on surface ships. The other, however, which was worn on nuclear subs like the Dreadnoughtlacked the luminescent material, as radiation is carefully monitored on submarines for obvious health and safety reasons.

What's On Offer:

Inside the crisp 38mm stainless steel case beats the reliable and robust manual wind Lemania 15CHT calibre and the case features a screw on case back. The lugs of the watch curve beautifully to fit on ones wrist which leaves the striking dial wonderfully pleasant on the eye. Topped with a shatterproof plexiglass the Lemania really comes to life on a nice NATO strap or leather strap which rounds off an incredible piece of history that can be taken worn anywhere.

The dial remains in fantastic condition with a nice aged patina to it whilst the case shows no sign of significant damage or wear. This example represents an outstanding opportunity to own a really desirable timepiece steeped in history and one that has seen significant historical events.
