Jaeger LeCoultre Dirty Dozen Military Soldiers Watch - c.1944
A Superb Jaeger LeCoultre WWW Dirty Dozen Soldier's Watch in Original Condition With Attractive Lume and Original Military Engravings
Around 6000 of the circa 150,000 "WWW" watches exported to Britain during the war were from Jaeger LeCoultre and it's believed they arrived in the UK in the second half of 1945. Classified for “General Service” but issued to special units including radio operators and artillery staff members it is likely these watches will have seen some action during the war and definitely beyond!
The use of the Broad Arrow on the dial for Government property goes back all the way to Sir Philip Sidney, Joint Master of the Ordnance in 1585 whose family used the Broad Arrow in its coat of arms.
Founded in 1833, Jaeger LeCoultre (also known as JLC) is a very well-respected Swiss brand that was started by Antoine LeCoultre and as of the year 2000 has been part of the Richemont luxury goods group.
What’s On Offer
This is a fantastic example of the JLC Dirty Dozen watch with a rich black dial, crisp Arabic numerals and original cathedral hands which still boast their original lume. The hour plots also have some of their original lume left and it, along with the lume on the hands, has aged to a really nice buttery yellow. The recessed counter also looks sharp as does the outer minute track. The dial is completed with the military pheon and the JLC signature. The chrome-topped case has been incredibly well-preserved with barely any wear on the chrome-topped metal. On the caseback, the original military engravings are visible and read: 282605 WWW F11955 - the military pheon is also present and this denotes the watch as the property of the MoD. This watch is in all round superb shape, in fact, we think it's the best example of the JLC Dirty Dozen we have ever owned - its condition is bordering new old stock! As such it would make an excellent addition to any military lovers' collection.
