A Superb and Very Collectable Example of a British Military Issued Cyma Dirty Dozen in Great Condition and Displaying Unique Lume Colour on the Original Radium Dial and Hands.

The characteristically monochrome design of "Dirty Dozen" dials can be traced back to twelve military field watches which were commissioned at the beginning of World War II by the British MoD. At this time, civilian watches were unable to withstand the perilous conditions of war and so the MoD invited Swiss manufacturers to build a watch to their specific requirements.

This eventually resulted in the production of watches from 12 different brands, hence the nickname "The Dirty Dozen".

A lot of these watches were destroyed in the 1970s due to the presence of radioactive Radium-226, in the luminescent material, hence the numbers of surviving watches dwindled. This, teamed with the obvious historical significance of the watches, has made them increasingly more collectible.

What’s On Offer

The Cyma is the largest of the "Dirty Dozen" housed in a 38mm case, it is a fairly meaty watch that wears well on the wrist. The dial on this watch looks well with sharp Arabic numerals and lume plots on the hour, all very much intact as is the lume on the hands, which has evenly aged to a beautiful turquoise giving the dial a really unique aesthetic. This watch looks great on and wears very comfortably with the tropicalised colourway adding a modern twist. A nice addition to any collection, steeped in military history and still looking good.
