A Nice and Honest Example of Buren's Ministry of Defence, Issued Watch with Eyecatching Lume. Finished with a NATO Strap, This Watch is a Real Collector's Piece.
In the closing years of World War II, a basic but carefully specified model wristwatch was commissioned for members of the British armed forces by the Ministry of Defence - manufactured by one of twelve watchmakers who delivered the pieces in 1944 and 1945. These manufacturers (Buren, Cyma, Eterna, Grana, JLC, Lemania, Longines, IWC, Omega, Record, Timor, and Vertex) later came to be known as ‘The Dirty Dozen’ in the mid-1960s, after the release of the popular war film of the same name. Out of the circa 150,000 watches delivered, only circa 11,000 Buren branded watches were produced.
What's On Offer:
An honest and original example of the Buren Dirty Dozen on offer for sale, and an exciting opportunity to own an original piece of military history. This watch has been remarkably well preserved since it possibly saw live military WWII action in the 1940s and beyond.
Although there is some slight deterioration of the chrome plating on the case, it really only adds to the character rather than taking anything away. The dial is the main event, of course, with crisp white Arabic numerals, an outer minute track and small seconds dial punching out from the rich black. The lume on the hour plots and chunky sword hands has aged beautifully to a buttery hue and the Buren signature which is underwritten by the military pheon is perfectly legible. These watches are becoming fewer and fewer as the years roll by and as such are very much sought after by both military enthusiasts and vintage watch collectors alike.
Running well and keeping good time, we have inspected the watch since its last and fairly recent service by our master military watchmaker, the revered John Senior, it is sold with confidence and our own 12-month warranty.
