An Outstanding Example of the RARE Geneve Dial 6bb Military Watch - Issued 1974 - Marked With the Military Reference, 6bb/5238290

A Rare 'Geneve' Dial Hamilton 6bb RAF Issued Watch with a 1974 Issue Number! Hamilton produced for the RAF under the 6bb mark ONLY, between 1973 and 1976. The watch succeeded the earlier Smiths production piece and preceded the CWC production pieces.

The ‘T’ marking on the dial denotes tritium, the original 1960s and 1970s material used to make dials luminescent, a mark that guarantees the originality of the dial.  Fixed lug bars as typical of military pieces, notably also present in the "Dirty Dozen" collection and generally on most British military wristwatches.

What’s On Offer

1974, Geneve signed dial, RAF issued British Military Watch with its mechanical hand-wound movement and steel tonneau case, with Broad Arrow military dial and issue engravings, 6bb/5238290 on the case back, denoting it being issued to the British Royal Air Force. The dial has white Arabic numerals, which are typical of most military-issued watches. These watches also typically have a sweep second hand with a 'hack' feature and steel luminous hands, which is again very typical of good vintage military watches.

This example is in extraordinary condition, a real gem of a find given its age.  The marking 'Geneve' on the dial is much scarcer than the versions without and as such this watch would make a superb addition to any Hamilton or general military watch collection, as well as a great everyday wearer in general.

The dial is in fine fettle right the way down to the tritium hour plots which are remarkably intact. The sword hands are in pristine condition with the lume fading to a beautiful buttery hue, as have the hour plots. The minute tracking ring and broad arrow denotation, all synonymous with military pieces, have remained sharp.

The case too is in fantastic condition, with no notable blemishes to speak of - rather incredible since these watches were true 'tool' watches.

This watch is an outstanding example steeped in rich history - there is no time for laurels on this occasion, a rare iteration of the more common W10 Hamiltons, it will be snapped up in no time.
