A Fantastic Vintage Rolex Submariner 5513 Serif Dial from 1970 with Matt Black Dial and Corresponding Black Aluminium Bezel Insert (First Fifteen Minutes Hash)

The 5513 references were introduced in 1962 and were produced continuously until 1989 making it one of the longest production runs in the brand's history. The Submariner 5513 is highly popular among vintage collectors and has seen a steady price increase over recent years.

This watch is a 'serif' dial and is dated to c.1970, as such, it boasts Tritium-painted indexes, and derives its name from the small lines, ‘serifs’, that flare off the corners of the rectangle hour markers at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock. In this example, these plots have aged to a stunning pale yellow colour. The matt black dial is in fantastic condition and has all the hallmarks of the 5513 including the feet' first two lines at 6 o'clock and the Rolex signature at 12. The dial also bears the Mercedes hands (these could be replacement hands due to a service at some point) but they are true to the watch's original design. 

The dial is showcased underneath domed Plexiglass and encased in stainless steel with a bidirectional rotating bezel with an aluminium insert (Mark 3 Fat Font) and hash marks for the first fifteen minutes - all correct for this watch! The pip on the bezel could have been replaced also at some point over the years which we don't consider to be an issue at all. This watch is in all round beautiful vintage condition and wears beautifully. It is sold with its box but no paperwork. You will not go far wrong with a stunning vintage Rolex like this, an icon of horology that will long be admired, but don't hang around, these watches creep up in price all the time and their numbers inevitably will dwindle.
