An Oversized Omega Seamaster Cosmic 2000 Model Reference 166.133 - Calibre 1022 movement

During the late 1960s and 1970s, Omega produced a series of timepieces under the “Seamaster Cosmic” name, which sought to capitalize on Omega’s NASA/space travel heritage, and breathe new life into their Seamaster collection with casual and dress watches that embraced a more modern and futuristic design. Omega produced the Seamaster Cosmic in a number of different styles and configurations, including a dive watch with an integrated bracelet; however the general design language of the Cosmic revolves around cushion-shaped cases, and dials that either have “crosshair” markings or checkered minute tracks. Additionally, many Seamaster Cosmic watches used front-loading, single-piece cases, or a double case design with an integrated bracelet, like the Seamaster Cosmic 200 diver.

What's on offer

The watch on offer here represents an early example of the model and features both the day and date complication at the 3 o’clock position on the dial. The beautiful metallic Royal Blue colour on the dial sets the stage for really elegant appearance which is fittingly finished with steel baton indices and hands that have lume towards the tip of the hands. The applied Omega logo adds an additional flair to the dial which has aged nicely and shows signs of patina to the edge of the dial which is in line with the age and reinforces the originality of this piece.

The 39mm stainless steel case forms a great presence on ones wrist which in part is due to the nicely rounded case edges, but also due to the generous size for a watch of this era which in turn leaves a timeless and contemporary feel to the watch. Beating inside is the Cal. 1022 with straight line lever escapement and is both shock absorbent and water resistant. A fantastic addition to anyone’s collection.
