Antoine LeCoultre founded his first watchmaking workshop after inventing a machine to produce watchmaking pinions. 

In 1866, Antoine LeCoultre along with his son Elie opened the first Manufacture in the Vallée de Joux. Manufacture is a term used to describe a watch company with the ability to produce its own watch movements. 

Elie encouraged his father to expand to a larger scale factory and they became the first to establish in the illustrious Joux Valley. Jaeger LeCoultre continues to reside here today. LeCoultre met Edmond Jaeger, the official horologist to the French navy, around the turn of the century and they began to collaborate on various projects until they formed an official partnership in 1937 and the Jaeger-LeCoultre (JLC) brand was born.

A charming vintage dress watch from one of the most revered brands in watchmaking history. 

The exquisite silver coloured dial is the jewel in this watch's crown without a doubt, still, the slender syringe hands are in good shape with luminous inserts intact. The dial may however have been refinished at some point historically, over the years! The inside caseback is engraved with LeCoultre, Swiss, however, the watch movement is signed Jaeger LeCoultre, which suggests this was produced or exported to the USA market. The watch is a good size at 33.5mm and wears rather well on the wrist. It is running well and keeping good time, a beautiful watch that would happily transition from everyday wear to a more formal occasion. A rare opportunity to acquire a JLC timepiece at a competitive price.
