A Stunning, Vintage Rolex Oyster Perpetual GMT Master Wrist Watch with ‘Pepsi’ Bezel and matte dial - Ref. 1675 - c. 1971
Designed to show the time in two different time zones simultaneously, the Rolex Oyster Perpetual GMT Master was first produced in 1955 as a navigation instrument for globe-trotting Pan Am personnel.
Replaced by the GMT Master II in 1982, its combination of functionality and instantly recognizable style made it popular with a wider audience of world travellers - one of the brands most iconic and admired styles with a chunky stainless steel case and memorable two-tone 'Pepsi' bezel.
This classic mens’s vintage Rolex Oyster Perpetual GMT Master has a two coloured ‘Pepsi’ bezel in blue and red, allowing the wearer to distinguish between a.m and p.m.
The matte black dial with hand-painted Tritium lume markers falls into the rarer Mark II dial category and along with the Tritium inserts on the Mercedes style hands the Tritium has already started to change to a beautiful creamy vanilla colour and we think this will certainly continue to darken to an even nicer caramel and then pumpkin colour. The watch has serial number 310xxxx, dating it to c.1971 and confirmed by inside case back engraving for ii.71.
Set on its original stainless steel Oyster bracelet (ref. 78360) the piece also features a date wheel at 3 o’clock.
What’s On Offer
This lovely example of a vintage reference 1675 Rolex Oyster Perpetual GMT Master is sold with all original parts, save for the blue and red ‘Pepsi’ bezel insert, the original of which was replaced historically by a genuine Rolex service insert (known as a ‘Snowman 8’ bezel, as the upper part of the ‘8’ is circular as opposed to the oval 8 original).
The watch is in excellent and original condition overall, possibly lightly polished in the past and sold with its original Oyster bracelet, the links of which remain tight.
The plots on the dial have darkened to a beautiful creamy vanilla colour in accordance with the watches’ age.
