Rolex Rare Vintage 1959 Men’s Silver 'Radial' Dial Oyster Precision Wrist Watch. Ref. 6424. 

This vintage 1959 Rolex men’s Oyster Precision wrist watch with steel waterproof case and original screw-down Oysterlock crown comes with a very rare silver radial patterned dial, rather than the more common sunburst or plain versions. We have never come across this style before, it can only best be described as circular brushing from the centre outwards.

It’s also the oversized (jumbo) case for an Oyster Precision watch of this period, with a width of 36mm without crown! So very special on two counts!

The Rolex Oyster range was created in the 1930s and is today held in high-esteem amongst vintage watch collectors as hailing from a distinguished era of watchmaking. The Oyster watch was the first waterproof watch in the world and was also worn by a multitude of dare-devils and die-hards (race car driver Malcolm Campbell  was wearing the model when he set the land speed record in 1935)!

With a classic, understated style and sleek lines, this elegant timepiece features the smooth, polished bezel in stainless steel with 'Dagger or Alpha' hour and minute hands and a slender central seconds hand. All of the luminous radium pips on the dial that mark the tapered faceted indexes have muted to a beautiful caramel colour over time, along with the luminous hands. 

The watch is powered by a fantastic workhorse, calibre 1215 manually wound movement which was noted to have had a 58hrs power reserve when it was produced, which is phenomenal for the period. 

What’s on offer:

This piece is sold in excellent condition overall, with only light wear from use and all engravings crisp and clear between the lugs and inner case back stamped 6424.

The Radial dial is in truly spectacular condition without any blemishes. It lifts the watch to a different level and looks stunning!

The watch has serial number 1,199,000, dating it to c.1959. 

It has recently been professionally serviced and comes with a 12-month guarantee. 

This item doesn't come with its original original box or papers but we can at additional cost supply it with a genuine and period correct vintage Rolex box. (Please let us know at point of purchase).
