Omega Wristwatch - WWW Dirty Dozen - Military Issued Watch - c.1940s

A Delightful Example of an Omega "Dirty Dozen" Military Issued Watch c.1940s in Remarkable Condition with Stunning Vanilla Lume. A Real Collectors Piece Steeped in History.

Becoming increasingly rare and therefore increasingly sought after, the WWW military watches were the first to be specially designed and custom-made for the British Army.

In the 1940s The Ministry of Defence developed a specification for military issue wristwatches. The specification is referred to as W.W.W - Watch, Wrist, and Waterproof. W.W.W. is marked on the case back along with the serial number and manufacturer code which in this case is Y for Omega.

12 different manufacturers produced watches to MoD specification and they are collectively referred to as “The Dirty Dozen”.

Only around 25,000 Omega, WWW watches were made for the British Army during WW2 and we don't know how many of these survived, the dwindling numbers combined with the obvious historical significance make these watches really collectible.

What’s On Offer

NB - The scratches on the plexiglass were very superficial and have been lightly polished out since this watch was photographed for sale. Contact us if you would like to see a video of the watch via whatsapp.

Any military enthusiast will appreciate the remarkable condition of this watch, especially given its former life as a military tool watch that has more than likely seen active service, and its age of over 70 years! The stark black dial with sharp Arabic numerals, sub-dial, and Omega signature is frankly a joy. However, the pièce de résistance is the lume that has aged to an absolutely beautifully even vanilla hue. The years have been kind to this watch and it has clearly been well taken care of, the case and lugs are well maintained and complete a charming package that would delight any military collector. The caseback is engraved with WWW, the military arrow, and Y23253 10687452. We have recently had the watch serviced by our master watchmaker and it is running well and keeping great time, and is sold with our 12-month warranty.
