A World War II issued soldiers Jaeger LeCoultre, marked WWW and known as part of the “Dirty Dozen” collection!

Around 6000 of the circa 150,000 "WWW" watches exported to Britain during the war were from Jaeger LeCoultre and its believed they arrived in the UK in the second half of 1945. Classified for “General Service” but issued to special units including radio operators and artillery staff members it is likely these watches will have seen some action during the war and definitely beyond!

The use of the Broad Arrow on the dial for Government property goes back all the way to Sir Philip Sidney, Joint Master of the Ordnance in 1585 whose family used the Broad Arrow in its coat of arms.

Founded in 1833, Jaeger LeCoultre (also known as JLC) is a very well respected Swiss brand that was started by Antoine LeCoultre and as of the year 2000 has been part of the Richemont luxury goods group.

What’s On Offer

The watch on offer here is a wonderful example. Great patina to the dial which tells a story of a watch likely to have seen action on the front line and carries that history with it for another generation to enjoy. The plated case looks to have been polished or replated at some point historically but is not showing signs of rubbing like a lot that you will see! The dial and hands are MoD Tritium replacements that will have been changed by the REME during a service whilst the watch was with the military which was not uncommon because of the known dangers of the original Radium dials. The dial shows nice character to it and retains its legibility but does have some slight discolouration to the Arabic 8 and 9 hour markers and a tiny amount of the paint on the number 11 is missing, this said it is still a very nice looking watch as hopefully you can see from our images!

The watch has very recently come back after service by our watchmaker so rest assured it is running well and keeping great time and ready to be enjoyed by the next custodian.
