Longines 14K Gold tank cased watch - c.1946

A fantastic vintage 1946 rectangular, "tank" cased watch by Longines in a fantastic signed 14k yellow gold, hinged case in excellent condition.

The case measures 20 x 34 mm and is signed Longines with the Swiss squirrel mark for 14k gold and the "Key of Geneva" case makers mark.

The case houses a beautiful 17 jewel Longines Cal. 25.17 movement, which is again signed Longines and numbered 5491xxx as is the outside of the case back.

There is also an inner, movement dust cover. An extremely elegant watch dating to 1946 when it was bought new from the Bel-Air Metropole in Lausanne, Switzerland as per the original guarantee document, as per our photo's, and that will come with this fine time piece.

The off white dial has black Arabic numerals with an outer "rail track" minute marker and subsidiary seconds dial with original blued steel hands. The dial is also signed Longines and has been recently refurbished to a very high standard and looks fantastic!

The watch comes on a new dark brown leather band with a gold coloured pin buckle!

This is a watch of exceptional quality and design. A wonderful example from 1946. The only thing this watch lacks is its original box but it does come with a vintage cotton dust bag (believed original to the watch) signed Longines as per the photographs. We think this would have been the equivalent of a service pouch of that era.

The watch has recently undergone a complete service by our watchmaker, light hand polish of the case and will come with our 12 months guarantee for your piece of mind.

Overall a fantastic watch at an exceptional price.

A few weeks after we purchased this watch from a local contact, completely by chance we happened across the son of the original owner. He told the story of how his father, who, was a Yorkshire based watchmaker, came across this watch in a shop in the Bel-Air, in Switzerland while there on a watch factory tour. He instantly fell in love with it and as it was not a model available to the UK market he bought it for himself immediately. The son whom we met, later inherited the watch but was not using it so decided to sell it to the dealer that we purchased it from. We hope someone else will also see what he saw in this fantastic watch and it won't be long before its with it's next custodian!
