The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date, sometimes just called the Rolex Date, made its debut in the mid-1950s. Amongst the many more well-known references such as the Submariner and the Daytona, the Rolex Date could be considered rather overlooked, however, it is one of the brand's oldest lines that remains in production. Rolex introduced the 1501 reference family of the Oyster Perpetual Date in the 1960s, this watch being the gold and steel variant has the additional reference between the lugs, of 1505.

This is a really beautiful dress watch in striking gold and black colourway which offers understated glamour and refined opulence. The jet black dial is in beautiful condition and offers a stunning contrast against the gold applied dial furniture including the Rolex crown sitting proudly at 12 o'clock. The slim stick hands with lume inserts are graceful and glide around the dial which is completed by a subtle date aperture at 3 o’clock.

The fluted gold bezel is in unblemished condition as is the Rolex signed crown and the stainless steel lugs offer a really pleasing distinction, curving seamlessly onto the wrist. This watch is fairly slender in proportion at 35mm, however, it wears larger which might be down to the textured bezel which gives the case a more meaty aesthetic.

We have paired this watch with a black, textured, handmade nubuck leather strap which looks stunning and brings out the black of the dial beautifully.
