The Rolex Oysterdate was released in 1953 with the debut reference 6094 and was available with a black or white dial, covered with an acrylic crystal, sword-like hands and an Oyster bracelet. An updated reference followed soon after, Ref. 6294, which replaced the dauphine hands with straight batons. Halfway through its run, Rolex perfected its magnifying Cyclops lens, so there are examples of the Ref. 6294 both with and without it.

The Ref. 6494 came next, introducing a wider range of dial colours, and in 1958, just five years after its launch, the Oysterdate received its fourth variant  - Ref. 6694.

What's on Offer

What's not to like about this watch? The Oysterdate Precision reference 6694 was introduced in the early 1960s and ran with great success until being discontinued at the end of the 1980s and in fact, it was Rolex's last manual-wind watch.

This example is in superb preowned condition and looks exquisite on the wrist. The classic lines and elegant simplicity of this reference have kept it relevant and popular for both men and women. The silver sunburst dial is beautifully preserved with applied baton hour markers, the Rolex coronet at noon and the Precision signature at 6 o'clock. Of course, there is a date aperture at 3 o'clock underneath a subtle cyclops which completes a beautiful dial. The case and bracelet do have signs of wear, but they are minimal and nothing we wouldn't expect to see on a watch of this age. The watch is sold with its original box and paperwork and has been meticulously looked after - from the paperwork we can see the watch was first sold in 1990, however, it was produced in 1986.
