A vintage c.1943, Omega Military Style Wristwatch with the iconic 30T2 Sweep Seconds

Omega's long history with issued watches to Armed Forces dates back to World War 1. In the run-up to World War II Omega again was at the forefront of providing watches for the war effort along with 11 other brands to make up the famous “Dirty Dozen”. Omega was founded by Louis Brandt in 1848 and the brand has been one of the longest-standing continual production watch companies in history. Although Louis is most famous for Omega, he also founded many other smaller brands such as Helvetia. As many will know Omega is a notable Swiss brand and has been on the wrist of many famous people from performance artists to leaders of countries, Omega has won notable horological awards nearly every year since 1894!

What’s On Offer

The watch on offer here is a delightful steel case time-only watch that was produced in 1943. Having been serviced by our watchmaker in January 2021 this example is ready to wear and be enjoyed for some time to come.

Inside the wonderful steel case is the Omega calibre 30T2,16 jewelled movement, which was seen regularly in Omega watches of the period. The dial has great warmth and patina to it with the lumed Arabic indices, and syringe hands; again lumed and as can be seen from our photos, the lume has darkened to a very chocolate brown.

Adding very much, in our opinion to the whole aesthetic of the dial is the delicately designed outer seconds rail track sixty seconds counter. The dial shows slight blemishes, however, this is in line with the age of the watch and adds to its character in our opinion. This watch makes for an interesting addition to anyone’s collection and for a watch of this period, it’s in rather nice condition.

Because of the dial design, configuration, and the production period of this watch we wonder if it was likely worn by a member of the military or a civilian connected to the Forces during WWII. Regardless, a stunning and beautiful Omega watch.
