The quartz "G10" was the first quartz watch supplied to the British military, with the name coming from the form G1033 that had to be filled in, in order for you to be issued one. The G10 dial was designed for simplicity and clarity and CWC supplied over 160,000 of them to the MoD for 26 years between 1980 and 2006, many with different caseback markings denoting the specific Armed Force the watch was issued to!
The old logo was used for a couple of years and was changed to the oval logo in 1982. The early G10s like this we are offering were nicknamed 'Fatboy' as the case was thicker than the current models in order to house more significant ETA 555 movements.
What’s On Offer
This Cabot Watch Company (CWC ) Military issued G10 watch is in astonishingly good condition with barely any signs of wear. The blemish-free dial is rich black and perfectly showcases the bold Arabic numerals and the outer minute track. There are luminous indices on the hour plots including the big triangle at 12 o'clock, which have aged to a beautiful light butter colour and the same has happened with the lume on the original sword hands.
The CWC logo and 'T circle' motif denoting the dial as tritium are both present at 12 o'clock. A central seconds hand completes the dial which sits underneath shatterproof Plexiglass and is encased in stainless steel. The caseback is engraved with original military markings reading 0552/6645-99, 5415317, 3162, 85. Here, the 1985 example offered for sale is a Fat Boy iteration and houses the ETA 555 movement. 1985 was the last year of production of this case variant of the G10.
