Baume & Mercier, Hampton - Ref: MV045063. A Mid-Size Tank Cased Watch in Stainless Steel

Baume & Mercier was founded as "Frères Baume" in 1830 by brothers Louis-Victor and Célestin Baume, who opened the watch dealership in Les Bois, a village in the Swiss Jura. The Swiss watch manufacturer expanded internationally by establishing a branch in London in 1851 under the name "Baume Brothers", which led to expansion throughout the British Empire. By the late 19th century, the company had an established international reputation, and its timepieces had set accuracy records and won a number of timekeeping competitions. The firm became specialized in manufacturing wristwatches, particularly unconventional "shaped" models that did not possess the traditional round form. In 1988, the Swiss watchmaker joined the Richemont group.

The current model we have on offer here is a reference MV045063 and also known as the Hampton. This particular watch is a crisp example of the model featuring a very attractive and clean white dial. The design of the dial and case is very grand and takes inspiration from the Art Deco period with its window pane outer track to the dial and subtle applied square hour indices with Arabic 3, 9 & 12 giving the dial a contemporary yet classic appearance.

At the 6 o’clock position is a sub-seconds dial which further enhances the minimalist and tidy dial. The watch wears beautifully on the wrist which, thanks to the wonderful case and lugs that taper nicely. Finishing the package off are the contrasting silver coloured hands which don’t dominate the dial and are the perfect size for the proportions and design of the watch face which is no easy thing to do when designing a classic yet contemporary tank style watch. Naturally, the condition of the watch is really good. Slight signs of the year but nothing overly noticeable once on the wrist and the watch comes ready to be enjoyed for many years to come.
