In the closing years of World War II, a basic but carefully specified model wristwatch was commissioned for members of the British armed forces by the Ministry of Defence - manufactured by one of twelve watchmakers who delivered the pieces in 1944 and 1945. These manufacturers (Buren, Cyma, Eterna, Grana, JLC, Lemania, Longines, IWC, Omega, Record, Timor, and Vertex) later came to be known as ‘The Dirty Dozen’ in the mid-1960s, after the release of the popular war film of the same name. Out of the circa 150,000 watches delivered, only circa 11,000 Buren-branded watches were produced.

What's On Offer:

A super example of the Buren member of the Dirty Dozen (DD) family, boasting a blemish-free rich black dial, brilliant white Arabic numerals, an outer minute track, small seconds dial at 6 o'clock and the synonymous military pheon underneath the Buren signature. The lume has aged really evenly across both the sword hands and the hour plots, giving the dial a really nice balance of colour. The chrome-topped case is still in good shape with very few signs of deterioration and of course, the caseback bears the military engravings one would expect with any DD watch - WWW H 2640 332803.  A really nice collector's piece and very much sought after.

Running well and keeping good time, after a recent service by our master military watchmaker, the watch is sold with confidence and our own 12-month warranty.
