A Nice Example of Buren's Ministry of Defence, Issued Watch with Eyecatching Lume. Finished with a NATO Strap, This Watch is a Real Collectors Piece.
In the closing years of World War II, a basic but carefully specified model wristwatch was commissioned for members of the British armed forces by the Ministry of Defence - manufactured by one of twelve watchmakers who delivered the pieces in 1944 and 1945. These manufacturers (Buren, Cyma, Eterna, Grana, JLC, Lemania, Longines, IWC, Omega, Record, Timor, and Vertex) later came to be known as ‘The Dirty Dozen’ in the mid-1960s, after the release of the popular war film of the same name. Out of the circa 150,000 watches delivered, only circa 11,000 Buren branded watches were produced.
What's On Offer:
The chrome topped 36.5mm case shows light wear but nothing significant and is not bad at all considering the age of the watch. The lume looks fantastic and is particularly eye-catching on the sword hands. With the Buren brand name and broad arrow remaining ever-present on the dial, a real collector's piece, and with a significant place in horological history, the Buren “Dirty Dozen” is a watch known by many and chased by serious collectors. Finished with a NATO strap, this watch really comes to life.
